What is NavSkills™?
Providing high-quality training solutions is crucial for an increased safety at sea. Furuno established their training concept called NavSkills™ in 2010. Developed by experienced Furuno instructors, this concept guarantees for high-quality training solutions. Possible options are classroom trainings, available in the NavSkills™ training center network ,or online training, delivered by NavSkills™ Online Platform.
Digital Certificate
Once your training course has been successfully completed, the digital certificate will automatically and immediately be send to you within one hour. This saves time, as no scanning or saving the paper documentation is necessary.
Direct access for selected online courses
After booking an online course, it will be made available to you without long waiting times or the requirement to schedule any training appointments. This is available for Furuno ECDIS FMD training, Furuno FEA training and IMO Model Course 7.11.
Furuno ECDIS, FMD Series -Online Training
This course is about the Furuno FMD ECDIS Series ( 3100/3200/3300/3005 Series). You will be provided with knowledge of the functions and effective use of these systems and it is compliant with regulatory demands for maker approved type-sepecific certification.
Base for this course are the requirements of the STCW CODE, Table A-II/1 and Chapter VIII, Standards regarding watchkeeping, Section A-VIII/2, Part 1 "Principles to be observed in keeping navigational watch", paragraph 36.
Content of classrom training and online course are identical. It is recommended to already have a generic ECDIS certificate.
Duration
The estimated time it takes for this course is estimated with 16 hours. You can leave and continue the course whenever you want, this offers maximum flexibility and the possibilty to complete this course at your own pace. Once your license key is activated at the platform, you will have 90 days to complete the course.
Content of the course
This course will educate you with the familiarization with different available functions and the menu structure of the ECDIS. A quick and correct overview of the current situation is very important during voyages, the visual display setup and the adjusting of settings for the safety parameters will also be explained. Another content of this course is the familiarization of route planning and voyage monitoring. Also basic information as how to load and update charts/ licenses, documentation and position verification will be discussed.
Certificate
After each lesson you will be asked to do a small test. Once you passed each test after all lessons, the certificate will be generated and made available to you in the NavSkills™ Online Plattform. This means that no final conclusive test is required.
Furuno ECDIS refresher, FMD series- Online training
This online refresher course updates your knowledge of the functionality and effective use of the Furuno FMD ECDIS (3100/3200/3300/3005 series). The course complies with STCW requirements and is equivalent to the classroom-based refresher training. It also complies to Table A-II/1 and Chapter VIII, Standards regarding watchkeeping, Section A-VIII/2, Part 4-1 "Principles to be observed in keeping navigational watch", paragraph 36. This course is for Navigators that are already operating the FMD Series or plan to do so. This course includes the familiarization with available functions and the menu structure. For easy identification of danger and threats, the visual display setup and the settings of safety parameters will be mentioned too. Another content of this course is the familiarization of route planning and voyage monitoring. Also basic information as how to load and update charts/ licenses, documentation and position verification will be discussed. To always have verified information regarding own dynamic vessel data, informations about the sensor management and recognition of alarms will be taught. The estimated time it takes for this course is one working day. You can leave and continue the course whenever you want, this offers maximum flexibility and the possibility to complete this course at your own pace. Once your license key is activated at the platform, you will have 90 days to complete the course. The course requirement is a Furuno type-specific ECDIS certificate or Furuno IMO Model Course 1.27 certificate.
Furuno ECDIS, FEA series - Online training
This type-specific online ECDIS training provides comprehensive knowledge on the functionality and effective use of the Furuno FEA-2107/2807 series. The course meets all regulatory requirements for manufacturer-approved certification and is fully compliant with STCW standards. It also complies to Table A-II/1 and Chapter VIII, Standards regarding watchkeeping, Section A-VIII/2, Part 4-1 "Principles to be observed in keeping navigational watch", paragraph 36. Designed for navigators currently operating or planning to use Furuno ECDIS systems, the course covers key topics such as system familiarization, route planning, chart management, safety settings, alarm handling, and position verification. The training is self-paced, allowing flexible access over a 90-day period from activating your license, with an estimated completion time of 16 hours. Short assessments follow each module, and upon successful completion, participants receive an official certificate via the NavSkills™ Online platform. It is recommended to have a generic ECDIS certificate beforehand.
Furuno Marine Radar - Online training
This online training course provides in-depth knowledge of the Furuno FAR 22x8/23x8 Marine Radar, combining essential radar theory with practical understanding of system-specific functions. The course is aligned with STCW requirements standards. It also complies to Table A-II/1 and Chapter VIII, Standards regarding watchkeeping, Section A-VIII/2, Part 4-1 "Principles to be observed in keeping navigational watch", paragraph 36. Delivered online through engaging video content with animations and illustrations, the training offers a flexible, self-paced learning experience accessible anytime and anywhere. For Masters, Chief Mates and Officers in charge of navigational watch on board of vessels is a requirement. This course is focused on the FAR-22x8/ 23x8 Marine Radar series from Furuno, but also offers valuable knowledge for everyone being interested in how to operate a maritime radar in general. Topics included, but not limited to radar theory, user settings, radar navigation, collision avoidance and periodic tests. The training is self-paced, allowing flexible access over a 90-day period from activating your license, with an estimated completion time of 16 hours. There is no need to have any previous certificates. Short assessments follow each module, and upon successful completion, participants receive an official certificate via the NavSkills™ Online platform. This course is also available as an offline version.
Furuno Bridge - Online training
This online training course provides a comprehensive introduction to key Furuno bridge equipment, enabling participants to operate essential navigation and communication systems effectively. The course covers AIS, GPS, NAVTEX, echo eounder, MF/HF radiotelephone, and VHF radiophone across six structured modules. Delivered entirely online through engaging video content with animations and illustrations, the training offers a flexible, self-paced learning experience accessible anytime and anywhere. Content of this course is the current up-to date NavCom equipment from Furuno like FA-170, GP-170, NX-900, FE-800, FS-XX75-SSB-Series and FM-8900S. Designed for Masters, Chief Mates, and Officers of the Watch, the course is particularly relevant for those joining newbuild vessels or working with retrofitted Furuno bridge systems. It is also suitable for technical and shore-based personnel seeking a general understanding of NavCom equipment. With an estimated duration of 8 hours, participants have 90 days to complete the course. Short assessments follow each module, and upon successful completion, a digital certificate is issued via the NavSkills™ Online platform. This course is also available as an offline version.
